Bavarian Cycle Works is all about keeping the passion for BMW motorcycles alive and fostering the unique community we ride in. We have decades of dealership and independent shop experience, and are looking forward to keeping all models and vintages of BMWs on the road here in the Bay Area. While we specialize in fuel-injected models, we also have years of experience with carbureted models, and we don’t play favorites. Every motorcycle we work on gets treated as one of our own –- if we wouldn’t use a part or product on our own motorcycle, then it certainly won’t be installed on your motorcycle.

BCW service and repair by factory BMW certified master technician with a staff dealer/shop experience representing 50-plus years! And unlike at other shops you are encouraged to meet and talk with them before and after your bike’s service or repair. We pride ourselves on our ability to offer a level of service you cannot get anywhere else. We also aren’t limited in ways the dealers are. For instance, we carry and install Siebenrock oil resistant clutch plates, K & N air filters, Yuasa and Westco batteries (each with considerably more cold cranking amperage than stock BMW/Exide batteries,) and NGK and Bosch iridium spark plugs in addition to the OEM offerings as well.

BCW is the exclusive dealer for the BoosterPlug in California. The BoosterPlug works wonders on the post-1992 fuel-injected BMWs. We have them in stock for every model. BCW has perfected the installation process through careful monitoring of the air temperature at the additional NTC. Check the BoosterPlug website for all of the technical details. Installation time varies by bike. Call us and we’ll be happy to give you a quote.

Are you new to BMWs? Bring your bike by the shop — we are more than happy to go over it with you in detail. BCW is especially sensitive to the needs of the female Beemer pilots out there. We would never talk down to you and believe the only dumb question is the one never asked.

We utilize the TEXA computer diagnostic software which offers the most up to date capabilities available. Should the need arise, BCW even has the ability to communicate with technicians and shops worldwide via the TEXA Google based network. It also doesn’t limit us to BMW’s — we have Triumph, Moto Guzzi, Ducati and Suzuki capabilities, as well as many others.

We are committed to offering Factory service without dealer prices. BCW doesn’t charge extra for service items that were once traditionally included on the BMW maintenance schedule. Want the rear drive oil changed on your R1200GS? It’s included with every Inspection and Annual service. Valves out of spec on your K1200LT? That won’t be an extra 2 hour charge at BCW. We could go on and on, but you get the idea.

Our operating hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30am-5:30pm.  We will attempt to accommodate other requests for early or later pick-ups. Also, in the event of an emergency, contact Mark @ CC Rider Tow @ 415.334.8697. He can arrange to have your bike left inside BCW outside of our normal hours without incurring an additional tow charge.

Those of you who aren’t afraid to ride MUNI (it’s not so bad if you think of it as an adventure), can use the 22 Fillmore, the 33 Stanyan, the 27 Bryant or 12 Folsom. All are just a few blocks away. We are also more than happy to call a taxi for you while your bike is being checked in to save you time.

Originally from the midwest (born in the garden spot known as Gary, Indiana), BCW co-owner and Certified Master Technician David Benda has been riding motorcycles since the early part of the decade that gave us Elton John, the Designated Hitter (curses) and the R 90 S. His first (legal) ride was a 1978 Triumph T140 Bonneville; but coming from a family of BMW riders, it wasn’t long before he joined ‘em with a 1978 R 100 S that he traversed the US on. He can now be regularly seen around San Francisco on his R 100 M, and on the backroads of California on his 2008 R 1200 GS Adventure. David was one of the first BMW Master Certified Technicians in the U.S. and has been professionally repairing BMWs since 1986. He was fortunate enough to work alongside some of the best BMW technicians in the U.S., learning from each along the way. While respecting other shops and technicians, David thinks you’re settling for less than best (or stranded in the jungle) should you settle for somewhere else other than BCW.
